Education Consulting:
As an Indigenous scholar I have had the unique opportunity to experience the educational setting in a very unique way. I have offered professional development workshops for educators while also working to conduct needs assessments' for various schools. I have also had the opportunity to work with various grant initiatives to either help produce grants or either report on those grants. Another passion I have worked to hone, is my work with one-to-one mentoring with students in their post-secondary planning efforts.
Elementary Education K-6:
I completed my student teaching experience in a second grade classroom and quickly fell in love. Innately I know that I am made to teach either first or second grade and find the most happiness with this age group. My elementary education program focused heavily on the Common Core curriculum. I thrive in environments where I am allowed to be creative, teach social studies, try and fail and implement various opportunities for cultural diversity. I love diverse populations that allow for social learning experiences that I could not provide otherwise.
School Counselor K-12:
I completed my school counseling internship at a high school in the Triangle area in which counselors were divided by alpha, there were approximately 2,000 students with a very diverse population. I find I enjoy career/ college counseling the most, no matter the grade. I enjoy 4-year planning with freshman or next semester planning with seniors. My school counseling program focused heavily on a strengths based approach. We were trained in the ASCA National Model as well as the solution focused brief counseling theory.
Native American Student Advocate
Many of my passions lie in the advocacy of my people within the educational realm. I seek to educate those around me about Native Americans as well as engage in conversations in order to increase the representation of Native Americans at institutions of higher learning. I complete classroom presentations in grades K-college concerning Native American culture (traditional dress, dance, food, etc). As I seek a PhD in Educational Studies, I hope to engage in the study of educational policy in order to ensure cultural awareness for Native American students.
